This week has been fairly uneventful mostly because of healing that is taking place on my arm. I have a bad habit of pushing myself too fast and end up knocking myself back on the healing process. It’s because I get bored and just want to do something. Even I can see that I should really slow down…. I am really trying to work on it.
We did, however, get the trees trimmed in the front yard. And by “we”, I mean Tomithy and the kids. Wood was moved to the burn pit for a future bonfire.
We are getting ready for our first event on the farm. The Perseid Meteor Shower will be taking place on August 12th. So we opened up our farm for friends and family to come from the city and enjoy natures fireworks. We are pretty excited and are praying for nice clear skies with great temperatures!
Now that things have slowed down a bit, we have been increasing the amount of research we’re doing to figure out how we want to run the farm and identifying realistic goals for this upcoming year. We are planning on running a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) this year to sell pasture raised chicken and possibly some pork also. This is a new adventure for us. So, we really upped our game with research and listening to some farmer podcasts. We believe it is really important to learn from everyone, that means, all angles including: farming styles we may not agree with, farmers we admire, and learning from other farmers’ mistakes. We feel it is important for us to learn as much as possible and then also share what we have learned along the way. Also, we are starting to think about the best way to lay out the annual garden beds that will be planted in the spring.
Lots of things are getting ready to happen in the next couple weeks. School will be starting for Samari as she starts her High School Career. We are excited to see both a meteor shower and solar eclipse in the same month. And Stoney will be starting his 3rd grade year of homeschooling. All great things. We are getting very excited as we get closer to fall on the homestead.
