My Love for my Crock Pot started about 8 years ago. It was a wedding gift that I didn’t think too much about until one day, my eyes were opened! It was hot and humid outside, and the inside wasn’t much better. The thought of turning on the oven to make dinner made me queasy just thinking about it. In my rant of complaining about the heat and dinner, a friend of mine said, “Use your Crock Pot!”
Honestly, I never thought much about my crock pot and all the possibilities that it had to offer. So I went to the basement, dug it out of storage and brought it to my kitchen. After setting it up, I looked at the recipe book that came with it and my world has forever been changed! Oh, the possibilities….the options….The Sky Was The Limit!
The thought of filling the crock pot in the morning and having a meal ready for dinner just made my heart happy! Plus the fact of not having to heat up the house after cooking all day. Plus, it gets better. If you are a meal planner, you can make a large potion of meat and spread that over several nights meals. You can stock up your freezer with pre-made meals for a, literal, dump and go meal. If the meal only takes a few hours to make and you have to work, get a crock pot with a timer OR an alarm. Set the time, and it will start and stop when you need it to. I, personally, like the very basic crock pot. Turn it on, and go.
One thing to remember about your crock pot. When you load the crock and you place the lid on top and you turn on the right cooking temperature, BE SURE IT IS PLUGGED IN! It took me a few times to learn this lesson. And nothing is worse than coming home to a nice warm home cooked meal, and dinner is cold and un-cooked, all because you forgot to plug the crock pot in. (I’m speaking from experience here…lol)
I found this handy conversion chart for recipes to go from the Oven to the Crock Pot. Thanks Food Lion!
So, I have, already, made quite a few things in my crock pot. Here is a list of all the recipes that I have written up for the blog.
