Dirt Cake

Our Sunday School Class had a get together today. We had a real nice “Pool Party Lunch”. I volunteered to make the desserts for the party. I decided to make a real crowd pleaser. A dessert that everyone would enjoy. Dirt Cake. This dessert is great for any time of the year but especially on a nice hot day like today. Something cool to enjoy while taking a break from swimming. This dessert is also great to take for a “Joke” as well. I am known to put this dessert in a flower pot and put fake flowers on top. Gummy Worms are even fun to add to the mix. But for today, I went with basic dessert. No tricks up my sleeve this time. Just good ol’ fashion yummy!

The first thing I do is I take 7 Cups of Milk and 4 packages of Instant Vanilla Pudding and I mix them all together and set aside.

While the pudding is “setting”, I take the cream icing filling out of 2 packages of Double Stuffed Oreos.

I then take the cookie part of the cookies and the extra bag of Oreos and put them in the food processor to turn them into crumbs. This is the “Dirt” part of the Dirt Cake.

Next I cream together the Icing filling of the Oreos,  2/3 Cup of Room Temperature Butter, 16 oz. of Softened Cream Cheese, and 2 Cups of Powdered Sugar.

After the pudding has “Set”, I fold 16 oz. of Cool Whip into it. Then gently fold in the Cream Cheese Mixture. Be gentle with this process. You want this mixture to stay fluffy and light.

It is now time to assemble the Dirt Cake. Start with the pudding mixture and then layer the cookie crumbs on top of that. Keep alternating the pudding mixture and the cookie crumbs until you end up with cookies on top. TIP- You would add the gummy worms to the mixture as you layer your cake. Keep cool until you are ready to enjoy.

This recipe is very large. It will make a lot of Dirt Cake and that is why I like to make it for a large group. Everyone always enjoys this sweet treat and I am sure you will also!
