I just want to start this post by saying that I am not a seamstress. I just started sewing about 2 months ago. Basically what I am trying to tell ya is I can rock some square craft projects like a Sewing Ninja. (If there were such a thing. LOL)
These valance style curtains were just something I put together to bring some nice color to the kitchen. They really make my windows smile!
First thing first. Pick out your material. It is always best to wash and dry the material before working with it so it doesn’t shrink after you make your curtains. I then cut 2 pieces of material to the size of 51 inches by 21 inches. This is the size I used for my curtains. When cutting the material, make sure that the pattern will be the same way when the curtains are finished.
The next step I did was tri-fold the 2 short sides first to a 1/2 inch hem. To make things easier, I also ironed and pinned the hems for easier sewing. After the 2 short sides are sewn with a straight stitch, I then folded the bottom of the curtain also to a 1/2 inch.
I then took the top of the curtain and folded it to a 2 inch hem. I measured my curtain rod to make sure it would fit in the opening of the hem. I, again, used a straight stitch to finish the seam. Do these steps to both curtains. WARNING- MAKE SURE THE PATTERN IS GOING TO FACE THE SAME WAY ON EACH CURTAIN. Spoken from experience.
I am really happy with the way these turned out. They definitely hit my check list for a craft that I take on, Simple and Cute!
